Eyelash Transplantation

Hair Transplant Seattle Eyelash Transplantation Image Dr. Goertz performs eyelash transplantation as a restorative procedure for those who do not have any lashes or are missing areas of lashes.

Hair for the eyelash is taken from the back of the head by removing a small amount of hair containing tissue. The hair containing follicles are then microscopically dissected away from the surrounding tissue. Great care is taken while creating the graft to preserve the integrity of the follicle, remove any surface skin tissue and surrounding tissue. The hair of the individual follicle is then threaded into a special needle. The eye is numbed using a local anesthetic and at times a protective lens is placed in the eye. The prepared grafts are then sewn individually into the lid in the area of need.

The area heals very quickly. After approximately 2-3 weeks the follicles go into a resting phase and the existing hair may fall out. Eye makeup cannot be worn during the initial recovery phase of approximately 2 weeks. New eyelashes will begin to grow between 3-6 months after the surgery. Because the hair used for the lashes is taken from the head the lashes will continue to grow and will require regular trimming to keep them from getting too long.
