Female Hair Loss
Many women think hair transplantation is just for men. It is not! In today’s society a lot of emphasis is placed on a woman’s appearance. It is not our place to discuss the pros and cons of this, but it is an undeniable fact. Women suffering from hair loss will often do so silently (for example, by not going out) and can also suffer psychological trauma, at times leading even to depression. Women are often subject to the same genetic factors that cause hair loss in men. Women normally have small circulating amounts of testosterone and in some the scalp also tends to have higher levels of 5-alpha reductase, which converts the testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). This leads to hair loss. The thinning of the hair tends to be on top and is more diffuse than in men and not generally associated with the receding hairline we see in men.
You need not suffer in silence. You can achieve wonderful results!
Your privacy is assured at our facility. Please call and see us for a no-cost consultation. Occasionally, they are other medical conditions that cause hair loss in women for which we will diagnose you and refer you for appropriate treatment. Some of you will contact us from outside of Washington State and we can work closely with your doctor to determine if you are a candidate for hair transplantation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brian O. Goertz MD
